Orewa Primary School was established as part of the Orewa District High School in 1956.  

Rapid population growth over the next 18 years meant that by 1974 there were enough secondary pupils to establish a college and as a result Orewa Primary School became a separate entity. 

By 1978 the primary roll had reached the point where there was need for another school in the area and Orewa North Primary School opened in May of that year.

Steady roll growth continued and by 1988 another primary school in the area was needed and Red Beach Primary School was opened. 

From the beginning of 2005, the Ministry of Education schooling strategy in the area changed and Orewa Primary became a Year 1–6  school.

Orewa College took over our site in Riverside Road and we were relocated to our present site in Maire Road from the beginning of 2006.
